Insurer's legal manager found guilty of fraud | Times of Zambia

LAST month I received an email from RiskAfrica Team entitled ?Legal insurance manager found guilty of fraud.?
I found the article so interesting that I decided to feature it today for readers of this column and the industry at large.

I will make a few comments on it and invite comments from my readers on the case.

?On Thursday December 6, the High Court in Windhoek found Esmereel Cerelda Homses, 35, a former manager of insurance company Santam Namibia?s legal department, guilty on 12 charges of insurance fraud amounting to nearly N$1.15 million, The Namibian reports.
Bail was cancelled following the conviction and Homses will remain in custody until her trial resumes on January 14, 2013.
Homses stood trial before Judge Alfred Siboleka on 29 main counts of fraud and alternative charges of theft.

Judge Siboleka convicted her on 12 of those charges, involving a total amount of N$465 000, and
found her not guilty on the other 17 charges.
Homses was accused of having defrauded Santam Namibia, or having stolen a total of N$1.149 million from the company
